DETROIT — A Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen in Detroit was closed Tuesday after a DoorDash driver captured video of cockroaches crawling over orders inside the restaurant, according to Fox 2 Detroit.

The DoorDash driver told WXYZ she was waiting for the order inside the restaurant's lobby at East Warren and Conner streets when she saw the bugs crawling on the counters, orders and straws.

"I was shocked. I was disgusted," the driver said. "I just couldn’t believe that they were even open."

The driver said DoorDash required her to deliver the order, but the customer decided to toss it out when it arrived, according to WXYZ.

"This is completely unacceptable!" Popeyes said on Twitter. "This restaurant was run by an independent franchisee and has been shut down until it can provide our guests with the Popeyes standards and service they deserve."

The Detroit Health Department sent an inspector to the restaurant, which must pass another inspection to be sure the issue has been eradicated before they will be allowed to reopen, according to health inspectors.

Not only are roaches bad for business, but they can migrate easily and then multiple, spreading the infestation from building to building.

A Wyandotte neighborhood was forced to shut down trick-or-treating on Halloween in October because of a major cockroach infestation. City officials feared the roaches would latch onto the kids, who would then inadvertently take the roaches with them.
