Detroit Red Wings Pick Up Former First-Rounders In Trade With Oilers
The Red Wings also selected forward Nate Danielson with the ninth overall pick in Wednesday's NHL draft.

DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings acquired a pair of forwards Thursday in a trade with the Edmonton Oilers, according to multiple reports.
The Red Wings acquired Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin from the Oilers in exchange for future considerations.
Yamamoto, 24, who mostly plays as a right winger, scored ten goals and racked up 25 points with a plus/minus rating of plus-12 in 58 games for the Oilers last season. The 2017 first-round draft pick has one year remaining on his contract at $3.1 million.

Kostin, 24, on the other hand, scored 11 goals and 21 points in 57 games last season, carrying a rating of plus-12. The former 2017 first-round selection of the St. Louis Blues is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.
It's possible Kostin could head back to Russia and play in the Kontinental Hockey League, but it's likely the Red Wings (with tons of cap room) will get a deal done and add him to the main roster.

The trades come as the Red Wings look to bolster their offensive production after trading away top goalscorers - Tyler Bertuzzi and Jakub Vrana at the 2023 trade deadline.
The Red Wings also selected forward Nate Danielson with the ninth overall pick in Wednesday's NHL draft.
