DETROIT — The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel will remain open if Canadian border workers go on strike Friday, according to officials.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada, who represents the Border Services Group, has threatened to go on strike if a new deal isn't reached between the labor union and the Government of Canada.

The two sides were in negotiations this week with the help of a mediator in a last-ditch effort to reach an agreement, according to officials.

"We are still hopeful that we can reach an agreement to avoid strike action and any potential delays at Canada’s borders," PSAC National President Sharon DeSousa said. "But the clock is ticking for Trudeau’s Liberal government to get to work on a fair contract for our members."
