Here are the top stories today in Detroit:

1. A University of Michigan study showed urban gardens don't lead to gentrification in Detroit. "We found in the case of community gardens, the folks who had access to those gardens were wealthier, more educated and of a higher socioeconomic status," said Jason Hawes, a doctoral student at University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability. (University of Michigan News)
2. An ex-Detorit Fire official was sentenced to prison for embezzling $220,000 on hotels, flights and cruises. The federal judge who sentenced Verdine Day, 62, on Tuesday also ordered her to pay more than $220,000 in restitution to the Detroit Fire Fighters Association. (Detroit Free Press)
3. Jennifer and James Crumbley are seeking to have their trial moved out of Oakland County, arguing they won't receive a fair trial there, according to a court document. (Rochester Hills Patch)
