Earn Free Prizes In This Detroit Area 5K Run

The first 350 runners will receive a free t-shirt, backpack and lunch​ in the 13th annual Hamtramck Health Hike.

HAMTRAMCK, MI — The Hamtramck Drug Free Community Coalition and city officials will host the 13th annual Hamtramck Health Hike on Saturday, May 21, according to a news release. The community event is free and participants can register online at tinyurl.com/HealthHike2022.

The 5K run will start at 9:30 a.m. at Zussman Park in front of City Hall, which is located at 3401 Evaline St. The first 350 runners will receive a free t-shirt, backpack and lunch.

Hamtramck Public Schools teacher Violetta Kuzniar will serve as the event's Grand Marshall and will lead the first group of runners. As a teacher, Kuzniar has been an exceptional mentor and friend to Hamtramck Public School students, the news release said.

Runners will sprint through the streets of Hamtramck whether it's warm and sunny or cloudy and rainy. Only the threat of severe weather would postpone the run.

The Hamtramck Drug Free Community Coalition was founded by the Piast Institute in 2007 to address issues of substance abuse among Hamtramck youth. Its members have worked with community leaders to address issues of alcohol, tobacco and opioids through prevention activities and other community events throughout the year.
