Election 2016: Uber, Lyft, Zipcar Deals to Get Metro Detroiters to the Polls
If you don't have a car — and 26 percent of Detroit households don't — ride share companies offer alternatives to get you to the polls.
DETROIT, MI — Some Metro Detroit voters who would most benefit from passage of a Regional Transit Authority millage to expand mass transit options in southeast Michigan don’t have access to a car.
In Detroit, voters in about 26 percent of households don’t have access to a car.
To get voters to the polls, Uber, Lyft and Zipcar are offering voters tailored services to get them to the polls on Election Day. All you have to do is open an app, type in your address and wait for your ride to appear.

The ride share companies offer different packages. For example, Lyft is offering a one-way 45 percent discount for riders in Detroit on Election Day. The base fare is .70 cents per mile with a $2.45 service fee. Uber matches your address with your polling place. If you want to drive yourself to the polls, but don’t have a wheels, Zipcar is offering a free rental.
