FBI Agent Arrested, Accused of Shooting at Michigan Police Officer

The Grand Rapids Police Department was dispatched around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday on a report that a man was brandishing a gun at a fitness center.

Updated. GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A man accused of shooting at a police officer during a disturbance at a Grand Rapids fitness center early Tuesday morning has been identified as an agent for the FBI, authorities said.

The Grand Rapids police sergeant responded about 1:15 a.m. to a report of a man who was allegedly brandishing a handgun and threatening customers inside Planet Fitness, 3681 28th St. SE, in Grand Rapids.

The police officer was not injured, and the suspect, a 35-year-old man, was arrested at gunpoint in the parking lot. Police did not fire, and no one was injured.

The FBI confirmed the suspect is an agent for the agency but declined additional information, The Detroit News reported.

It’s unclear what prompted the disturbance, the Detroit Free Press reported.
