Fifth Lions Player Under Investigation For Betting Violations: Report

Another Detroit Lions player is being investigated by the NFL for violating the league's gambling policy​, according to a report.

DETROIT — Another Detroit Lions player is being investigated by the NFL for violating the league's gambling policy, according to a report from the Athletic.

The outlet did not name the player, but said he did not play a prominent role for the Lions during the 2022 NFL season.

The league already suspended four other Lions players, including second-year wide receiver Jameson Williams, for gambling violations last month.

The team cut wide receiver Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore after they were suspended for the entire 2023 season for the betting violations.

Williams and wide receiver Stanley Berryhill were suspended for the first six games of the 2023 regular season. Both Berryhill and Williams can participate in off-season and pre-season activities leading up to their suspension, which will begin at the final roster cut down date, the team said.

Williams said he was unaware of the NFL gambling policy that he violated, telling reporters "it hit me out the blue."

"And, it hit a couple other players around the league and on my team out the blue."

NFL players and personnel are not allowed to bet on any games or any league-related activities. They're also not allowed to place bets place while at a team facility or on any team-related travel, according to league policy.
