Food Delivery Driver Charged In Deadly Detroit Hit-And-Run: Police

A food delivery driver from Grand Blanc was charged in connection with a deadly Detroit hit-and-run crash, according to police.

DETROIT — A food delivery driver from Grand Blanc is facing multiple charges in connection with a deadly Detroit hit-and-run crash that happened earlier this month, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Officials said 56-year-old Delia Dinwiddie of Detroit was walking on Linwood Street, near Leslie Street, on June 8 at 9 p.m. when she was struck by a car that never stopped.

Dinwiddie was taken to a nearby hospital where she died, according to police.

Officers with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department arrested 25-year-old Joseph Edmond Stewart in connection with the crash and turned over the investigation to Detroit Police on June 12.

Stewart was charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault – causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident – causing serious impairment/death and moving violation causing death.

Each of those charges is a 15-year felony. He was placed in jail with a $100,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for June 25.

Prosecutors said Stewart was working for an online food delivery service at the time of the crash.
