METRO DETROIT — Gas prices in metro Detroit jumped 12 cents over the past week, which set a new 2022 high at $3.37 per gallon, according to AAA Michigan. The spike is also 91 cents more than this time last year.
It now costs metro Detroit drivers around $50 to fill up a 15-gallon tank. However, that's still about $1 cheaper from when prices were their highest last November, according to AAA.
"Crude oil prices hit $90 a barrel putting upward pressure on Michigan pump prices pushing them to a new 2022-high," spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group Adrienne Woodland said. "If crude prices continue to climb, pump prices will likely follow suit."
