Here's Where To Celebrate National Detroit-Style Pizza Day
To celebrate the national day, Buddy's will donate $1 from every pizza sold at all 21 locations on Thursday to The Salvation Army.
DETROIT — As the nation's pizza capital, metro Detoriters will celebrate National Detroit-Style Pizza Day on Thursday with our delicious thick crust square pizza with crisp corners of brick cheese.
Detroit-Style Pizza was first originated by Buddy's Pizza at Six Mile and Conant roads on Detroit's east side in 1946. The holiday was founded last year in honor of Buddy's Day, which was first recognized by Detroit Mayor Dave Bing in 2011.
To celebrate the national day, Buddy’s will donate $1 from every pizza sold at all 21 locations on Thursday to The Salvation Army. Detroit Style Pizza Company in St. Clair Shores also joined Buddy's in a charitable effort and will donate 10% of Thursday's sales to Gleaners Food Bank.

"Detroit-Style is more than just a pizza style – it encompasses the meaning of staying true to your roots and supporting your community," Buddy’s Pizza chief brand officer Wes Pikula said. "As the innovative style continues to rapidly spread across the nation, this national day is the perfect opportunity to support those who need it most and give back to those who have supported us through our 76 years of business."
A study done by Anytime Estimate ranked Detroit as the nation's top pizza city, particularly because Detroit has the most independent pizzerias per capita — around 6 per 100,000 residents — which is nearly double the average of the 50 cities analyzed by the finance group.
