Illegal Dumpers Busted On Detroit's Westside

The illegal dumpers were busted and arrested by Detroit Police near Eaton and Cheyenne streets, which has been plagued with illegal dumping.

DETROIT — Detroit Police said Thursday morning they caught two illegal dumpers near Eaton and Cheyenne streets on the city's westside. The area has been plagued with illegal dumping.

Officers said they caught the dumpers with hidden cameras as they drove a pick-up truck to the area at at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. The city has installed cameras throughout known dumping locations.

Police said the cameras caught the dumpers making several trips, in which they dumped about 100 tires. They were also fined $10 thousand each and their pick-up truck was seized by police, officials said.

"We are going to relentlessly pursue those people who dump in our city," Police Chief James White said at a news conference. "If you dump in our city, you're going to go jail. We're going to use technology, we're going to use good old-fashioned policing. We're going to use surveillance to make sure we apprehend you and get you off the streets."
