Kid Rock May Be Serious About U.S. Senate Run
Michigan-born musician Kid Rock hints on Twitter he may run for U.S. Senate, but a "campaign website" may not be all it seems.

METRO DETROIT, MI — Could Kid Rock be a serious candidate for U.S. Senate? His name was tossed around last spring as a possible Republican challenger to Debbie Stabenow, a Lansing Democrat who has held the seat since 2001, but it was largely dismissed as silly season talk. But maybe it isn't, if Kid Rock's Tweets are to be accepted at face value.
Kid Rock, the on-stage persona of Macomb County native Robert Ritchie, tweeted Wednesday that he’s about to announce something big. In another tweet, he confirmed that a campaign website is the real deal. But is it?
The link to the site goes to a Warner Bros. online store site, where supporters can buy “Kid Rock for Senate” shirts, caps, yard signs and bumper stickers. In February, a Michigan Republican convention delegate started the chatter about drafting Kid Rock to run against Stabenow, Michigan’s senior senator. The “All Summer Long” singer publicly backed President Donald Trump in 2016 and 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney in 2012.
The draft-Kid Rock-suggestion came from Wes Nakagiri, a Livingston County Tea Party activist elected to the GOP central committee, who said that besides his huge name recognition “would get rid of that stodgy Republican image,” the Detroit Free Press reported at the time.

Michigan Republican Party spokeswoman Sarah Anderson told Fox News in April that Kid Rock “would be awesome” as a senator. While no one has reached out to him as a possible candidate, Alexander said she “wouldn’t be surprised if there was a movement for him to run.”
Fellow Michigan-born rocker Ted Nugent also has flirted with a Senate run. The two musicians tagged along with Sarah Palin to a White House dinner in April. Palin, the former Alaska governor and unsuccessful 2008 vice presidential candidate, said she asked Rock and Nugent to join her because “Jesus was booked.”
