Listen to Aretha Franklin’s 4 Minute, 35 Second National Anthem Spiritual
The queen of soul took her sweet time with "The Star Spangled Banner" at the Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings Thanksgiving Day game.
DETROIT, MI — Some Detroit Lions fans said queen of soul Aretha Franklin offered a stirring rendition of the national anthem at the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day game against the Minnesota Vikings — even if they did qualify for Medicare while listening to it.
Playing piano on Ford Field as she sang, Franklin’s version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" lasted 4 minutes, 35 seconds. That’s longer than elite runners take to run a mile, and some Twitter users thought it was too long.
Others said Franklin deserves more R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

@BrandiNRollins @hanae_56_20 @clydefrogg007 @NFL Not to mention out in the cold, singing live. She refuses to lip sync.

@hanae_56_20 She had grown men crying. Complainers are stuck in their fast paced, self absorbed, "gotta get to football" minds. A classic.

Aretha Franklin for every national anthem ever.
