M-39 At I-96 In Detroit Closes After Road Rage Shooting: Police

Michigan State Police closed a portion of the Southfield Freeway near Interstate 96 in Detroit on Wednesday to investigate a shooting.

DETROIT — Michigan State Police closed a portion of the Southfield Freeway near Interstate 96 in Detroit on Wednesday morning to investigate a shooting.

The right lane going north on the Southfield Freeway was closed at Interstate 96. Officials also closed the Southfield Freeway's exit to eastbound Interstate 96.

Police said a driver was exiting the Southfield Freeway onto eastbound Interstate 96 Wednesday morning at 6:40 a.m. when another driver tried forcing that vehicle off the road while changing lanes.

A shooter in the second vehicle then fired multiple shots, striking the first vehicle numerous times, but not the driver, police said.

Michigan State Police were still investigating the shooting.
