Major Winter Storm Could Bring Snow, Rain To Metro Detroit This Week

METRO DETROIT — A powerful winter storm that could dump up to 24 inches of snow in some parts of the Midwest and stir up late-season thunderstorms and tornadoes across the South could bring snow and rain to the Metro Detroit area this week, according to the National Weather Service.

The slow moving storm is expected to make its way into the Detroit area Thursday morning, bringing isolated pockets of wet snow and heavy rain, as well as wind gusts that could reach up to 40 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

While the Metro Detroit area will likely be spared from the worst of the storm, other parts of Michigan, including some portions of the Upper Peninsula could see heavy snow, as the storm targets the Great Plains and upper Midwest with blizzard like conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain, mainly after 1am. Low around 36. Breezy, with an east wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday

Rain, mainly before 1pm. High near 48. East southeast wind 9 to 16 mph becoming south southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
