Suspected Car Thief Arrested After Running Out Of Gas During Police Chase In Monroe: Cops
The driver was placed in the Monroe County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding and receiving and concealing stolen property, police said.
MONROE COUNTY, MI — A suspected car thief was arrested Monday after running out of gas while fleeing officers in Monroe County, according to the county sheriff's office.
Officials said the Detroit Police Auto Theft Unit alerted the sheriff's office they spotted a stolen 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk moving south on Interstate 75 in Frenchtown Township at 10 a.m.
Officers found a stolen Jeep shortly later in the area of Nadeau Road and tried to stop the driver, but he refused to stop and sped away, according to the county sheriff's office.

Officers began chasing the Jeep and continued following the Jeep as it exited the freeway at South Otter Creek Road, according to the county sheriff's office.
The 24-year-old Onsted man continued speeding away from officers until the Jeep ran out of gas on Telegraph Road just south of Sterns Road in Bedford Township, according to the county sheriff's office.

Officers then arrested the driver and two other passengers (a 20-year-old Walled Lake man and a 21-year-old man from Detroit) all without incident, according to the county sheriff's office.
The driver was placed in the Monroe County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, and receiving and concealing stolen property, according to the county sheriff's office.
The two other men were released, but could face charges pending prosecutor review, according to the county sheriff's office.
Officials did not release any names.
