Man Killed In Violent Random Attack At Detroit Gas Station: Police

The incident happened at a gas station on Detroit's west side, according to police.

DETROIT — A man was killed in a random attack Tuesday morning at a Detroit gas station, according to police.

The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at a Sunoco on Joy Road near Greenfield in Detroit, according to police.

Detroit Police Captain Marcus Thirlkill told reporters the man walked into the gas station and the suspect got into the victim's Jeep.

When the man returned to his Jeep, Thirlkill said the suspect got out and beat him. He then got back into the Jeep and drove over the man multiple times before fleeing the scene, Thirlkill said.

The man was killed in the attack at the scene, Thirlkill said.

Detroit Auto Theft officers spotted the stolen Jeep shortly after the attack and started chasing the vehicle, Thirlkill said.

Michigan State Police and Dearborn Police joined officers in the chase and eventually arrested the suspect not far from the scene, Thirlkill said.

Police believe the attack was random.

Thirlkill did not share any additional details about the victim or the suspect.
