McDonald’s Introduces Fresh Beef Quarter Pounders In Detroit

Rollout called most significant change to McDonald's since All Day Breakfast

DETROIT, MI (May 7, 2018) – McDonald’s restaurants in Michigan today announced that they now officially offer Fresh Beef Quarter Pounders and Signature-Crafted Recipe sandwiches in all participating restaurants across the state. The quarter-pound burgers are cooked right when ordered and served hot off the grill with customers’ favorite toppings.

“The change to Fresh Beef Quarter-Pound Burgers is the most significant change to our McDonald’s system in Michigan since All Day Breakfast,” said Marcos Quesada, General Manager for more than 520 restaurants in the state of Michigan. “This is the next step in our food journey as we build a better McDonald’s in every community we serve.”

McDonald’s food journey has included: a commitment to serving only cage-free eggs in the U.S. by 2025; serving chicken not treated with antibiotics important to human medicine; removing artificial flavors/colors/preservatives from Chicken McNuggets; and serving sustainable fish on all Filet o’ Fish sandwiches in the U.S. as determined by the Marine Stewardship Council.

In test markets, the Fresh Beef Quarter Pounders generated high marks in customer satisfaction and intent to repurchase. Owner/operators also say it gives customers an opportunity to create their own taste profiles on their hamburgers.

“The cooked-when-ordered Fresh Beef Quarter Pounder is presenting a new type of opportunity for many customers who love to ask us to add their favorite toppings to their burger,” said Tony D’Anna, Michigan McDonald’s owner/operator. “Michigan customers want to try everything from guacamole and fresh-cracked eggs to bacon or mayo on their burgers.”

The news today was supported by leadership from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). “The McDonald’s system purchases 11 million pounds of beef from Michigan farmers,” said Gordon Wenk, Director of MDARD. “Michigan farmers offer some of the highest quality of beef available; we see this as an incredible economic opportunity for our state as we continue to strengthen the high-quality supplier relationships we have with McDonald’s.”

Cattle are raised on about 13,000 farms and ranches in Michigan and the sale of cattle contributes over $500 million to Michigan’s economy each year according to the Michigan Beef Industry Commission. “We are proud that Michigan cattlemen are part of the partnership in supplying McDonald’s with quality beef,” said George Quackenbush, Executive Director, Michigan Beef Industry Commission.

All of McDonald’s burgers, including the new Fresh Been Quarter Pounders, use 100% beef with absolutely no fillers, additives or preservatives. Quarter-pound burgers include the Quarter Pounder with Cheese®, Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese® and Signature Crafted Recipe® burgers.
