Metro Detroit Cooling Centers: List

METRO DETROIT — With temperatures expected to climb into the 90s with heat indices approaching 100 degrees in metro Detroit on Thursday and Friday, multiple cities in the area opened cooling centers.

In addition to the rising heat and humidity, forecasters said another round of severe thunderstorms can hit the area Friday night.

Severe thunderstorms Wednesday night knocked-out power to nearly 200,000 DTE customers in the area. As of Thursday afternoon, 184,000 were still in the dark.

Here is a list of cooling centers in metro Detroit:

Canton

• Canton Public Library 1200 S. Canton Center Rd. Monday -Tuesday: 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
  Friday - Saturday: 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, Sunday 12:00 noon - 6:00 pm
• Summit on the Parkway 46000 Summit Parkway. Monday-Friday: 5:30 am - 10:00 pm,
  Saturday: 6:00 am - 8:00 pm, Sunday: 7:00 am - 8:00 pm

Dearborn

• The Dearborn Police Department Lobby, 16909 Michigan Ave. (24 hours, seven days a week)
• The Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave. (Monday-Friday from 5:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
