Metro Detroit Could See Rain/Snow As Part Of Huge Storm Next Week

METRO DETROIT — The National Weather Service is predicting chances for wet weather heading in to early next week, which could impact Thanksgiving travel plans.

According to NWS, rain and gusty winds are likely to begin Saturday night and last through Sunday, before transitioning to snow chances Sunday night through Monday in the Metro Detroit region.

The precipation comes from a strong storm system moving in from southern Canada, in which some areas in Michigan could see at least six hours of heavy snow to maybe 12 hours of heavy lake-effect snow.

The storm could also impact other central and eastern parts of the U.S. AccuWeather predicted the storm could bring locally heavy snow accumulations from northern Indiana and Michigan to parts of Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York state from Monday to Wednesday.

Parts of the Northeast, including the New England region could also see snow, heavy rain and gusty winds. However, areas from near New York City to Washington, D.C., are likely to dodge the heaviest and steadiest rain from the coastal storm in that case, AccuWeather said.

Although the storm will hit certain areas harder than others, meteorologists warned it can cause substantial direct delays at major airport hubs in the Midwest, such as Chicago, Minneapolis and Detroit, from Monday to Tuesday as well as the major hubs in the East from Atlanta to Charlotte, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City and Boston from Monday to Wednesday.
