Metro Detroit Forecast: Rain, Possible Thunderstorms

While meteorologists expect just rain showers Wednesday afternoon, Thursday could bring stronger downpours and gusty winds.

METRO DETROIT — Wednesday's temperatures will reach the mid to upper 60s as afternoon rain showers move in across the metro Detroit area, the National Weather Service said.

Meteorologists expect Wednesday's rain to hold off until around 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. and then showers will persist though the evening hours toward sunset. Although thundershowers are possible Wednesday, meteorologist expect just rain showers in the metro Detroit area.

However, thunderstorms were possible Thursday, as the Storm Prediction Center placed the metro Detroit area under a "marginal risk" category for severe storms for Thursday afternoon and evening.

After isolated rain and thundershowers Thursday morning across the metro Detroit area, afternoon highs were expected to reach the mid 70s to low 80s, before the chance of severe storms move in, the National Weather Service said.

Meteorologists said Thursday's afternoon storms were expected to produce gusty winds, lightning and downpours. The scattered thunderstorms were expected to hang over into Friday morning, the National Weather Service said.

Meteorologists expected Friday morning's storms to clear out, making for afternoon highs in the 70s, but another wave of thunderstorms were expected Friday afternoon and evening as a cold front moves in the metro Detroit area.

Once Friday's storms wrap up, Memorial Day weekend looks bright and warm, with temperatures reaching the low 70s on Saturday and mid 80s on Sunday, the National Weather Service said.
