Metro Detroit Weather: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms, Flooding
Meteorologists said the strongest storms were expected to sweep through the metro Detroit area Monday afternoon between 5 and 9 p.m.
METRO DETROIT — Heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop Monday afternoon in metro Detroit as temperatures quickly warm up to the mid 80s, the National Weather Service said.
Meteorologists said the storms will begin sneaking into the metro Detroit region around 2 p.m. with the strongest cells developing between 5 and 9 p.m.
The storms were expected to sweep the area with wind gusts that could reach 60 miles per hour, dangerous lightning and downpours, creating the risk for flash flooding, the National Weather Service said.

Meteorologists expect the strongest storms to taper off Monday evening, but a second wave of heavy rain was expected to roll through the metro Detroit region Monday night into Tuesday morning, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a flood watch.
Despite breaks from Tuesday's morning rain, scattered thunderstorms were expected during the morning hours before the rain fizzles away in the early afternoon, the National Weather Service said.
