Frigid Air Moves In As Snow Moves Out: Metro Detroit Weather

Wind chills could reach up to -15 degrees in the metro Detroit area this week, according to the National Weather Service.

METRO DETROIT — After a round of Monday morning snow flurries, an arctic blast will swoop into metro Detroit, sending temperatures into the single digits with minus zero wind chills, according to the National Weather Service.

The Monday morning snow should dissipate by the early afternoon hours as temperatures reach the mid 20s, leaving roughly a half inch of fresh snow on the ground in metro Detroit, according to the National Weather Service.

After the light snow showers, temperatures in the metro area nosedive to an overnight low of 6 degrees with wind chills reaching as low as -5 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The cold dry air from the northwest hangs around the metro area Tuesday and Wednesday as temperatures stay in the low 20s with wind chills dropping to as low as -3 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday offers a slight daytime warm up to near 30 degrees in the metro area, but more cold dry air moves in during the nighttime hours, pushing wind chills to as low as -15 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters do expect a significant warm-up with temperatures in the metro area reaching near 40 degrees by the end of the weekend into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday: Snow likely, mainly before 10 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30 degrees. West northwest wind 6 to 11 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 18 degrees. Wind chill values as low as -5 degrees. West southwest wind 6 to 8 miles per hour.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 24 degrees. Southwest wind 9 to 11 miles per hour.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 31 degrees.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 16 degrees.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 30 degrees.

Sunday: Cloudy, with a high near 38 degrees.
