Metro Detroit Weather: Rain, Before Pleasant First Day Of Spring

Metro Detroiters can expect rain showers on Friday and Saturday, before fairly warm temperatures under sunny skies on Sunday.

METRO DETROIT — After a beautiful St. Paddy's Day when temperatures reached the mid 70s, chilly air moves back in Friday, bringing rain showers with it in the metro Detroit area, the National Weather Service said.

Metro Detroiters woke up to seasonably cool Friday with temperatures hovering around the low 40s under partly sunny skies. As the region warms up to the mid 50s by the afternoon, scattered rain showers begin arriving in the area, meteorologists said.

The rain will eventually turn into a steady rainfall Friday night into Saturday morning. Meteorologists said the metro region can expect a wet, chilly Friday evening, as the rain will help bring temperatures back into the low 40s.

Friday's rain will bleed over into Saturday morning as temperatures continue dropping. However, temperatures are expected to remain above freezing in the metro area, so meteorologists said there's no need to be concerned about freezing rain.

Saturday will eventually hit the mid 50s by the afternoon as the rain begins to dissipate over metro Detroit skies. But meteorologists said there's a chance more rain come in on Saturday night after 9 p.m. and bleed over into early Sunday morning.

Any rain showers lingering in the metro area will be gone by Sunday morning, where metro Detroiters can expect waking up to clouds and cooler temperatures in the low 40s. The clouds will eventually give away to sunny skies with highs reaching the mid 50s by Sunday afternoon, making for a pleasant first day of spring, the National Weather Service said.
