Rain showers will being crossing the metro Detroit area Thursday afternoon when temperatures hit near 40 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters warned the rain showers could start transitioning into snow showers Thursday evening as temperatures cool down into the 30s, making for a possible messy afternoon commute in the metro Detroit area.

Any lingering snow showers in the metro Detroit area should dissipate by Friday morning, as wind chills will keep temperatures in the 20s, according to the National Weather Service.
