Metro Detroit Weather: Scattered Thunderstorms, Heavy Downpours: NWS

Meteorologists said any thunderstorm that pops up was not expected to be severe, but could produce heavy downpours.

METRO DETROIT — The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for most of southeastern Michigan, including the metro Detroit area for possible scattered thunderstorms with Tuesday's rain.

Meteorologists said the rain will begin falling in the metro Detroit area Tuesday morning, with the potential for heavy downpours and scattered thunderstorms toward the afternoon and evening hours.

However, any thunderstorm that pops up was not expected to be severe, but meteorologists warned any potential thunderstorm could produce heavy downpours.

The rainfall and scattered thunderstorms were expected to taper off around midnight, leaving 1-2 inches of rain between the metro Detroit area and the border toward Ohio, the National Weather Service said.
