Metro Detroit Weather: Severe Thunderstorms Likely Wednesday Afternoon
The thunderstorms are expected to begin crossing the region just as heat indexes are expected to reach around 100 degrees, officials said.
METRO DETROIT — After a dry Wednesday morning in the metro Detroit area, showers and thunderstorms are expected to roll through the region as temperatures reach the mid 90s, the National Weather Service said.
The thunderstorms are expected to begin crossing the region during the afternoon and evening hours Wednesday, just as heat indexes are expected to reach around 100 degrees, the National Weather Service said.
Meteorologists expect the bulk of the storms to roll through the area between 5 and 6 p.m. with lingering showers and storms lasting into the overnight hours. Meteorologists also warned some storms can be severe and produce wind gusts up to 65 miles per hour and heavy downpours, leading to flooding.

While the threat of a tornado is small, it can not be ruled out, especially in areas north of Michigan 59, the National Weather Service said.
Showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected to linger into Thursday morning in the metro Detroit area, the National Weather Service said. However, meteorologists don't expect any severe weather Thursday.
