Metro Detroit Weather: Thunderstorms, 60 MPH Winds Wednesday: NWS

Rain showers were expected in metro Detroit Wednesday afternoon, before severe thunderstorm chances Wednesday night, meteorologists warned.

METRO DETROIT — A passing warm front will push Wednesday's metro Detroit temperatures into the low 70s, bringing afternoon rain showers, before heavier rain with the chance of severe thunderstorms Wednesday night, meteorologists warned.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather lookout for southeastern Michigan from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. when widespread thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rain, strong wind gusts and deadly lighting, meteorologists warned.

The strong winds are expected to be the main threat from these storms, as the National Weather Service warned they will reach 60 miles per hour at times.

Although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out in southeastern Michigan, there will be greater tornado outbreak chances in parts of Illinois, Kentucky and Indiana, where much of the worst weather will hit, meteorologists said.

The strong winds and thunderstorms will push their way into Thursday morning across metro Detroit, when heavy downpours could create a tricky morning commute, the National Weather Service said.
