Metro Detroit Weather: Thunderstorms Possible Wednesday Evening

METRO DETROIT — The metro Detroit area could see heavy rain and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon through the late evening hours, meteorologists said.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous outlook Wednesday for most of southeastern Michigan, warning the thunderstorms could produce large hail and winds between 40-45 miles per hour. The storms are expected to be stronger toward the Michigan-Ohio border.

Despite the rain and potential thunderstorms moving into the metro Detroit region Wednesday, temperatures are expected to remain fairly consistent around 50 degrees, meteorologists said. The rain will become lighter and more scattered moving into Thursday morning, possibly making for a wet morning commute.

Thursday is not expected to be an all-day rainmaker in the metro Detroit region with highs reaching the 50s, but lingering showers will make for on and off rain chances through Thursday morning and afternoon, before heavier rain moves in Thursday night, meteorologists said.

Thursday night's rain could then transition into light snow showers, as temperatures drop into the 30s, meteorologists said. Any spots that see snow is not expected to see any accumulation. Friday looks dry but also cooler, as highs will only reach the 40s.

There is another chance of light snow showers overnight Friday into Saturday morning in the metro area, as temperatures will stay consistent in the 30s. Saturday and Sunday will be cooler with highs only reaching the low 40s, meteorologists said.

However, metro Detroiters can expect lots of sunshine on Sunday, meteorologists said.
