Severe Weather Possible, Stormy Weekend Ahead For Metro Detroit

Showers and thunderstorms were expected Saturday, just as cars begin revving their engines at the Woodward Dream Cruise.

METRO DETROIT — After a warm and sunny Friday in the metro Detroit area, showers and thunderstorms were expected Saturday, just as cars begin revving their engines at the Woodward Dream Cruise, the National Weather Service said.

Saturday will warm quickly as temperatures reach the mid 80s with higher levels of humidity, making it feel like the low 90s in the early afternoon hours, the National Weather Service said. That's when meteorologists said skies will go from clear to cloudy.

Rain showers and thunderstorms will being crossing the metro Detroit area sometime after 3 p.m. Saturday. Meteorologists warned that some storms crossing the area could be severe. A second round of scattered storms could cross the area again Saturday night, the National Weather Service said.

The scattered showers and storms will bleed over into Sunday with temperatures in the upper 60s, the National Weather Service said. Meteorologists expect more widespread showers to cross the metro Detroit area by noon Sunday, practically setting up for an all-day rainmaker.

The wet weather doesn't end Sunday, however, as another round of rain showers and thunderstorms were expected to roll through the metro Detroit area during the afternoon hours Monday, the National Weather Service said.
