MI COVID-19 Surge: 86,005 New COVID-19 Cases, 501 New Deaths

MICHIGAN — State health officials provided Michigan's first COVID-19 update on Wednesday, in which the state reported 86,005 new COVID-19 cases with 501 new virus related deaths over the past five days.
The new case total amounts to an average of 17,202 per day, which is a decrease from 18,557 last Friday.
State health officials reported just over 4,400 hospitalizations on Wednesday, which is decrease from 4,600 hospitalizations last Friday. Although the number of hospitalizations have declined in the state, they remain at record levels.

Michigan's average COVID-19 positivity rate also declined from 44 percent to 33 percent, state health officials reported.
64.7 percent of Michigan's population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to CDC data.
