MI Schools Add 71 New COVID-19 Outbreaks

MICHIGAN — The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported on Monday 71 new COVID-19 outbreaks among students, staff and faculty in Michigan schools and universities.

The largest outbreak came from Northwood University in Midland with 25 confirmed cases reported by the Midland County Department of Public Health.

Also notable were outbreaks from two high schools in Kent County. South Christian High School in Byron Center reported 21 new COVID-19 new cases and Cedar Springs High School in Cedar Springs confirmed 16 cases.

Oakland County reported three new outbreaks with eight cases confirmed at Avondale GATE Magnet School in Auburn Hills. Walled Lake Western High School in Commerce Charter Township and Bloomfield Hills' Cranbrook each reported two confirmed cases.

The largest outbreak in Wayne County came from St. Paul On The Lake Catholic School in Grosse Pointe Farms with six confirmed cases. Belleville High School in Belleville reported five cases.

The largest ongoing outbreak is at the University of Michigan with 283 confirmed cases by the Washtenaw County Public Health.

Renaissance High School in Detroit also more than doubled their current COVID-19 outbreak from six to 14 confirmed cases by the City of Detroit Health Department.

All together, Michigan schools and universities reported a total of 343 new COVID-19 cases in addition to the 548 ongoing outbreaks.
