Michigan Coronavirus Deaths Reach 259; More Than 7,600 Cases
Coronavirus death totals eclipse 250 in Michigan as the state reports more than 7,600 new cases.
MICHIGAN — More than 250 people have died in Michigan from the coronavirus — otherwise known as COVID-19 — according to the latest information provided by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
The state released its updated numbers at 3 p.m. Tuesday, adding more than 1,100 new cases of the coronavirus and 75 new deaths. The updated numbers bring the statewide totals to 7,615 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 259 deaths.
Southeast Michigan continues to be the hardest hit portion of the state. Detroit reported an increase of 44 deaths with more than 2,000 confirmed cases.

Oakland County saw an uptick of 22 deaths, and an increase to 1,500 confirmed cases reported. Wayne County saw its death total increase from 31 to 45 deaths, with more than 1,600 overall cases reported.
Michigan's updated totals, which are indicative of what had been reported as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, keep the state among the four hardest hit states in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, New York, New Jersey and California rank ahead of Michigan. New York overwhelmingly has the highest total, with more than 67,000 reported cases.

The U.S. has seen more than 122,000 cases, according to the latest numbers released by the World Health Organization (WHO). China, where the virus is believed to have originated, has reported more than 82,000 cases and 3,300 deaths. Italy has seen the highest death total, with more than 97,000 total cases and more than 10,000 deaths reported.
