Michigan Reports Highest Coronavirus Case Increase Since April
Michigan health officials reported more than 1,300 new cases Friday, the highest single-day spike the state has seen since April.
MICHIGAN — Michigan saw its highest single-day increase in new coronavirus cases in more than four months Friday as state health officials reported more than 1,300 new cases of the coronavirus.
Michigan added 1,313 new coronavirus cases Friday, bringing the state's case total to 110,832. The state also reported nine additional deaths, bringing the coronavirus death toll in Michigan to 6,578.
Michigan on Thursday added 924 new cases of the coronavirus, and also added 17 deaths attributed to the virus. More than 80,000 people in Michigan had recovered from the virus as of last week.

Friday's new coronavirus numbers are the highest the state has reported since April 24, when Michigan added 1,350 new cases.

The World Health Organization — which factors probable cases and deaths of the coronavirus in addition to confirmed numbers — reported that Michigan is 18th in the U.S. in reported coronavirus cases. California, Texas and Florida make up the Top 3 states. Michigan ranks ninth in the nation in reported coronavirus deaths, a statistic the state has previously ranked as high as third in.
More than 6.6 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the U.S., according to the World Health Organization. The U.S. leads the world in reported cases, ranking ahead of India (over 4.6 million cases reported) and Brazil (over 4.2 million cases reported). More than 196,000 people in the U.S. have died from the coronavirus, while over 3.8 million people have recovered from the virus.
Over 28.5 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. That number includes more than 916,000 deaths attributed to the virus. Meanwhile, over 20.4 million people around the world have recovered from the virus.
More than 7.1 million cases of the coronavirus remain active worldwide.
