More Storms, Flooding Expected To Hit Metro Detroit Friday

The severe weather threat comes as more than 80,000 DTE customers in the metro Detroit area were still without power Friday morning.

METRO DETROIT — Another round of severe thunderstorms are expected to slam southeastern Michigan on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The scattered thunderstorms will move into the region sometime during the late afternoon hours when temperatures climb over 90 degrees with heat indices roughly around 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The strongest storms are expected to cross the region south of a line from Saginaw to Port Huron, an area that is at slight risk (2 of 5) for severe weather Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

"Torrential rainfall is expected with any thunderstorms. There is the potential for multiple rounds of thunderstorms to impact the same area," the National Weather Service said on Twitter. "Rapid rises in small streams as well as flooding in urban and low-lying areas are possible."

The thunderstorms should taper off in the nighttime hours, but they could linger into early Saturday morning before diminishing, according to the National Weather Service.

The severe thunderstorm threat comes after storms battered southeastern Michigan on Wednesday, knocking-down hundreds of tree limbs and power lines. More than 80,000 DTE customers in the metro Detroit area were still without power Friday morning.
