(Originally published Oct. 18, 2016) DETROIT, MI — A crash on Detroit's west side has caused injuries and sent one student to the hospital, the Detroit News is reporting. The crash was at about 7:30 a.m. in the area of the city's Brigtmoor neighborhood.
The crash occurred at Braile and Keeler, near Lahser and Fenkell in the city’s Brightmoor neighborhood, said Michael Woody, Detroit Police public information director. Seventeen students from Murphy Performance Academy were on board, ranging in ages from kindergarten through eighth grade, according to Stephanie Widner, superintendent of the charter school group’s Detroit locations.
Murphy is located at 23901 Fenkell, less than a mile from the crash site. The children were on their way to school when the collision occurred, Woody said. One student, a seventh-grader, was taken to an area hospital “for minor injuries” while the rest were checked at the scene and transported to school via a new bus.
