Michigan's Most Popular Baby Names In 2016 Are ...
Like parents across the country, Michiganders loved Noah as a baby boy name. They liked Emma for girls, but not as much as they loved Ava.

Michiganders helped Noah and, to a lesser extent, Emma rise to the top in an accounting of the top baby names in the United States. There were 508 baby boys named Noah born in Michigan in 2016, and 523 baby girls whose parents named them Emma.
So, what was the top baby girl name in Michigan in 2016? Ava was the choice of 574 parents, according to list of most popular baby names by state released by the Social Security Administration Thursday.
The U.S. list of most popular baby names was released last week, with just one new entry in the top 10, Elijah. It was the sixth-most popular name in Michigan, with 444 baby boys given that name in 2016.

The SSA began compiling the list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. The administration also notes how popular culture influences baby names. For 2016, the name Kehlani had the biggest jump in popularity and for boys, the name was Kylo.
The bump in popularity for Kehlani is likely to do with the popularity of the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Kehlani Parrish, according to the SSA. The bump for Kylo on the other hand likely has to do with the character in the 2015 movie, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
