METRO DETROIT — Multiple rounds of thunderstorms, including a round of severe weather could hit the metro Detroit area this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday's high could reach 60 degrees before widespread rain showers move into the area during the afternoon and evening hours, according to the National Weather Service.

The first round of thunderstorms could hit the area Tuesday night when temperatures cool back into the 50s, according to the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorm chances increase Wednesday afternoon when multiple lines of severe thunderstorms are expected to cross the area as temperatures reach the mid 70s, the weather service said.

The strong thunderstorms will be capable of producing hail, damaging winds and even an isolated tornado, the weather service said.

Here's the National Weather Service's extended metro Detroit forecast:

Monday: A chance of rain after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 60. West southwest wind 11 to 14 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 21 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Monday Night: Rain, mainly after 8 p.m. Low around 44 degrees. South southwest wind 7 to 10 miles per hour becoming northeast in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday: A chance of rain before 2 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 55 degrees. East wind 11 to 14 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 20 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Tuesday Night: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after 2 a.m. Low around 48 degrees. East wind around 16 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 24 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 72 degrees. Windy, with a south wind 22 to 28 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 39 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Rain and thunderstorms likely before 11 p.m., then a chance of rain between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41 degrees. Windy. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 52 degrees. Breezy.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 51 degrees.
