DETROIT — A new cocktail bar recently opened in Detroit’s Eastern Market neighborhood.

Pocket Change opened at 1454 Gratiot Avenue, the space that used to occupy the Collect Beer Bar, which moved last year to Detroit's West Village area.

Owner Nelson Kazan, who's well known in Detroit's bar scene, said Pocket Change will feature an intimate atmosphere with a focus on high-quality cocktails.

"I wanted to create a fun, upbeat bar where you can mingle, go on a date, meet friends, or connect with new people, all while enjoying a quality drink without having to wait for a table," Kazan said. "We’re all about a free-flowing, energetic environment driven by great music and great drinks."

The second-floor cocktail bar, with its notable red neon "Cocktails" sign, will feature a 1,200-square-foot space with dim lighting, deep red walls and lush curtains. The space can seat up to 49 guests. There’s also a third-floor rooftop available.

Pocket Change will offer a signature drinks list that will include a spicy tequila cocktail called Bingo Bango. The bar will also have a wine list with wines from Italy, France, Slovenia and Austria. The wines will cost $60 or less.

Pocket Change will be open Thursdays: 7 p.m. to midnight, Fridays and Saturdays: 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Sundays: 2 to 10 p.m.
