DETROIT — A new authentic English pub opened Thursday inside the Metropolitan Building in Downtown Detroit.

The Lone Goat English pub, located on the first floor of the historic building, features a selection of British and domestic draught beers, cocktails and sprits, and traditional pub food.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily with a menu featuring bangers and mash, shepherd's pie, fish and chips and Welsh rarebit.

The restaurant comes from the Detroit-based Roxbury Group and its Treefort Hospitality arm.

"We really wanted to develop an experience that drew from the historic attributes of the space and complimented the physical character of the Metropolitan Building," said Roxbury President James Van Dyke in a news release. "A genuine English pub was a great fit in a building that already looks like a medieval castle and, in our view, was an offering that was lacking in the marketplace."

Van Dyke added the restaurant's name comes from an old joke that is a favorite around the Roxbury Group, and they've love to talk about it if you catch them at the bar.
