Over 20k Without Power In Metro Detroit

Thousands of Metro Detroit homes and businesses are without power Wednesday morning after Tuesday night's severe storms.

METRO DETROIT — DTE reported over 20,000 power outages in the Metro Detroit area on Wednesday morning after last night's severe storms.

Most of the power outages are along a long strip that stretches from Independence Township in northern Oakland County down to Belleville Wayne County.

Other areas affected along this stretch are Walled Lake, White Lake, Novi, Plymouth and Canton.

There is also large patches of outages in Romulus, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Detroit.

Most of the outages in Detroit are in the Midtown area, especially around Wayne State University. In Dearborn, Edsel Ford High School, Whitmore-Bolles Elementary and Woodworth Middle School are closed today due to a power outage.

As of Wednesday morning, DTE said they have 357 crews working to restore power.
