Police Fatally Shoot Man Who Killed Ex-Girlfriend In Southfield: Cops

Police said the man reached for an assault rifle when officers tried boxing-in his car in Detroit.

DETROIT — Officers on Monday fatally shot a man who they said shot his ex-girlfriend to death and wounded her boyfriend outside a Southfield hotel hours earlier.

Police said officers found the suspected shooter in a Chevy Camaro convertible in Detroit near Seven Mile and Michigan 10 (Lodge Freeway) around 12:45 p.m.

When officers tried boxing-in the Camaro, the suspected shooter dropped the top of the convertible and reached for an assault rifle, police said.

Officers retaliated by firing multiple shots, fatally striking the suspected shooter, police said.

Southfield Shooting

A woman was killed and a man was critically injured in a Monday morning shooting in Southfield, police said.

Police said a gunman opened fire at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Detroit Marriott Southfield at Berg Road and Northwestern Highway, which is in the area of Interstate 696 and Telegraph Road.

A woman in her 40s died and a man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Police identified the suspected shooter as the woman's ex-boyfriend, who fled the scene after the shooting. He was fatally shot by officers hours later in Detroit.
