Police Investigating I-696 Weekend Shooting In Oakland County: MSP

SOUTHFIELD, MI — Troopers are investigating a road rage shooting that happened over the weekend in Oakland County.

The shooting happened on eastbound Interstate 696 between Evergreen and Southfield roads in Southfield at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, according to Michigan State Police.

A 64-year-old Southfield man told dispatchers he was driving a Ford F-250 Super Duty on the freeway Saturday morning when a woman passenger inside a black SUV threw a blue water bottle at his pickup truck, according to police.

The driver of the black SUV then fired shots at him, according to police.

The man told troopers the black SUV then exited the freeway at Coolidge Avenue and he lost track of it, according to police.

Investigators found a single bullet hole in the rear door of the pickup truck's passenger side, according to police.

Troopers said there were no injuries in the shooting.

That stretch of the freeway of temporality closed while troopers investigated the shooting.

Police are still investigating the shooting.
