A popular Detroit taco restaurant is reopening its new location this week after a fire in 2022 destroyed its old spot.

DETROIT — A popular Detroit taco restaurant is reopening its new location this week after a fire in 2022 destroyed its old spot.

Taqueria El Rey, best for their tacos and its popular food truck, is opening a new spot Friday along Vernor Highway in Mexicantown at 3400 Bagley St.

The new spot is the former Zocalo spot, across from Los Galanes.

The taco shop had been operating out of its food truck in the parking lot over the past few months.

In addition to tacos, the restaurant's menu features burritos, quesadillas, botanas and the grilled cuisine El Rey was famous for, including charcoal-grilled chicken and barbecued ribs.

There will also be a full bar with margaritas, Mexican beers and other drinks.
