POST Detroit hosts Textile Takeover outdoor art and craft fair
Annual event features workshops, demonstrations and craft activities, offers attendees chance to see, shop, learn and create with artists

POST Detroit will be taken over by dozens of artists and makers for the 2nd annual TEXTILE TAKEOVER, a weekend of art, craft and community. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 14 and 15, a full lineup of fashion and fibers-focused workshops will be held indoors, while demonstrations and “make & take” craft activities will be offered outside at POST.
More than 50 artists and makers will have their artwork and goods on display and for sale in the outdoor art and craft fair. A variety of mediums, including fibers and textile, jewelry and fine art will be represented. During the weekend event, attendees can learn about and try out different types of art and craft techniques, such as macramé, natural dying, yarn spinning, knitting, marbling and henna body art. They also can enjoy an array of food and beverages, as well as live musical entertainment.
Located at 14500 Kercheval, one block east of Chalmers, POST is an open concept retail store and workshop on Detroit’s east side that once was an old U.S. Post Office. It was converted into production studios, classrooms and a retail shop by Clare Fox and Wayne Maki of Mutual Adoration, a woodworking and design business housed inside of POST and known for its custom furniture, picture frames and housewares, primarily from reclaimed wood. POST offers workshops and classes, in all aspects of contemporary craft, including screen printing, woodworking, jewelry making and hand lettering. Since its 2017 opening, POST has become known as one of Detroit’s best places to shop small, whether for a gift or one’s home.
