Republicans Dump Wendy Day for Refusal to Support Donald Trump

The party chair says the decision to oust the tea party activist is one of the toughest she's made.

(Originally published Oct. 18, 2016) LANSING, MI — She says "no Donald," and now she's out. Wendy Day, grassroots vice chair of the Michigan Republican Party, was ousted for her refusal to support presidential candidate Donald Trump, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Day, a Tea Party activist who was the Michigan leader for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's presidential campaign in Michigan, was removed from her post Monday by state GOP Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel. Day reportedly refused to back Trump and has been critical of him with the media.

McDaniel called the decision one of the most difficult in her tenure as state party chair.
