RUSD School Board Announces Superintendent Transition Meeting

Meeting to be held June 22 to discuss transition and to appoint interim superintendent

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich., June 16, 2020 — The Redford Union School District’s Board of Education today announced it will hold a meeting June 22 at 6:30 p.m. to appoint an interim superintendent and discuss the transition. The District’s current Superintendent, Dr. Sarena Shivers last day with the District will be June 30th.

“Dr. Shiver’s worked across our entire school community to develop a 5-year strategic plan to continue to improve and push the district to its highest heights for the benefit of our students, their families and the entire Redford Union community. She was instrumental in starting programs that will forever be “game changers” for our young people like the Redford Union Early College program and expanding our alternative programming for our most vulnerable learners. We thank Dr. Shivers for her hard work and commitment to our students and district,” stated Redford Union School District, Board President, Lisa Gubachy.

“As we transition and appoint an interim superintendent, we look toward building on this foundation. The district has a committed team of educators, administrators, volunteers and supporters who will work to enable as smooth a transition as possible to our students, their families and our community,” continued Ms. Gubachy.

“I have enjoyed working with and learning from such a caring and hardworking community of educators. Redford Union School District has some of the best educators around who deeply care about the students they serve,” stated Dr. Shivers.

Dr. Shivers has accepted the position of Deputy Executive Director of MASA (Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators) effective July 1. Dr. Shivers joined the Redford Union School District as superintendent in 2015.
