Section Of I-94 In Detroit Will Close Through Weekend: MDOT

DETROIT — A section of Interstate 94 in Detroit will close Friday night through Monday morning, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Both eastbound and westbound Interstate 94 between Interstate 75 and Interstate 96 will close down Friday at 9 p.m. and reopen Monday at 5 a.m., officials said.

The freeway closure is to allow construction crews to work on a new bridge to replace the original structure that was built in 1955. The $12.5 million project is scheduled to be completed in 2024.

During the closure, traffic from westbound Interstate 94 will be detoured via southbound Interstate 75 and westbound Interstate 96 back to westbound Interstate 94. Eastbound Interstate 94 traffic will be detoured via eastbound Interstate 96 and northbound Interstate 75 back to eastbound Interstate 94, officials said.

All eastbound Interstate 94 entrance ramps from 30th Street to the Lodge Freeway (M-10) and westbound Interstate 94 from Mt. Elliott to Linwood will also close Friday at 9 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday morning, officials said.

Four ramps on Interstate 94 will remain closed after the weekend closure:

• Northbound and southbound of the Lodge Freeway (M-10) to eastbound Interstate 94
• Westbound Interstate 94 to southbound Michigan 10
• John R. Road entrance ramp to westbound Interstate 94
• Eastbound Interstate 94 exit to John R/Woodward Ave
