Semis Line Freeway To Help Suicidal Man On Overpass

Truck drivers banded together with police to help a man who was considering jumping early Tuesday morning.

OAK PARK, MI — A man contemplating suicide on an I-696 overpass last night was met by motorists and police alike trying to help him. According to a report from Fox 2, Michigan State Police organized a total of 13 semis underneath the overpass to help shorten the fall of the man considering jumping.

It shut down all lanes of I-696 in both directions at Coolidge early Tuesday morning, from about 1-4 a.m.

“This is one of the measures we take to make sure we can hopefully keep the person from getting hurt,” MSP Lt. Mike Shaw said.
